Territory

The “Le Sode di Sant’Angelo” estate is located in the hilly area of Montebamboli, in the municipality of Massa Marittima, within a suggestive area between the coasts of the Tuscan Maremma and the heights of the metalliferous hills.

The property covers an area of 40 hectares in the DOC MAREMMA area divided between vineyards, olive groves and arable land of various kinds. These lands located between Grosseto and Siena have been known since the time of the Etruscans for the presence of minerals such as iron, copper, lead, zinc and gypsum deposits.

It is precisely in this Tuscan “Eldorado”, particularly rich in silicon, clay and mineral salts, that very high quality wines are born, characterized by intense and pleasant aromas. The constant presence of sea breezes, combined with the scarcity of spring rainfall, are the cradle for the perfect ripening of the grapes, giving our wines an unmistakable qualitative note.

Between legend and reality

“Those were difficult times in the Maremma of that time: between wars and famine the only source of sustenance for mankind were the products grown with difficulty in a small patch of land. One autumn day an old farmer working in the fields saw his plow sink into the hard ground. After countless and desperate attempts to retrieve his tool, the man, exhausted by the cold and fatigue, surrendered to his sad destiny and, releasing the oxen from the heavy burden, set out for home with despair in his heart. Suddenly a light stronger than the sun illuminated his path and in the distance he saw an almost human figure heading towards his plow bringing it back to the surface. The frightened and incredulous man began to pray, thanking that angel from heaven who allowed him to complete his work “.
